Hair color and pregnancy

Is it safe to color hair during Pregnancy?     Many people over the years have asked about hair coloring during pregnancy.    Let’s start with a reasoning as to what could be in hair color to worry any consumer. 

Many years ago in the 1960′s – 1980′s hair color contained lead.  Lead is a toxic chemical that causes death and retardation.   This chemical has been removed.  Hair color now is safe, however: I recommend foiling which gives more control over the color, which is essential during pregnancy.  And, don’t ever go below a level five the color is too harsh.    So to summarize:  color hair during pregnancy is safe with mainly foil highlights and low lights and never go below a level five or medium brown, and perhaps just do the semi-permanent when coloring at home.
